Club Rules
Rules of the Game: 8-Ball Pool (Doubles Format)
1. Objective
- The goal is for a team to legally pocket all of their designated group (solids or stripes), then legally pocket the 8-ball to win.
2. Game Start
- Coin toss or lag determines which team breaks.
- Balls racked in a triangle with the 8-ball in the center, front ball on the foot spot.
- One solid and one stripe placed at the back corners.
3. The Break
- Break from behind the head string.
- Legal break: at least 4 object balls hit a cushion, or an object ball is pocketed.
- If 8-ball is pocketed on break:
- Without a foul: breaker may re-rack or spot the 8-ball and continue.
- With a foul: opponent may re-rack or spot the 8-ball and take over.
4. Choosing Groups
- After the break, the table is "open".
- The first legally pocketed ball after the break determines the group.
5. Legal Shots
- Always hit your group first.
- Failure is a foul, opponent gets ball in hand (cue ball anywhere).
6. Fouls (common)
- Hitting wrong group first
- Scratch (cue ball pocketed)
- Hitting 8-ball before legal
- Failing to hit any ball
Penalty: opponent gets ball in hand.
7. Doubles Rules
- Teams set a shooting order (Player A and Player B).
- A player continues until a miss, foul, or the turn ends.
- The next team turn uses the other teammate.
- If a foul occurs, the incoming team has ball in hand.
8. The 8-Ball
- Only after all group balls are cleared.
- Pocketing early or in the wrong pocket is a loss.
- Calling the pocket is required.
- Scratching on the 8-ball shot while the 8-ball drops is an automatic loss.
9. Winning and Losing
Win if: Pocket all group balls, legally call and pocket the 8-ball, no scratch/foul.
Lose if: Pocket 8-ball early/wrong pocket, or scratch while pocketing 8-ball.
10. Additional Rules
- No chipping or scooping the cue ball to jump it.
- At least one foot on the floor while shooting.
- On any legal shot, a ball must contact a cushion after the cue logic, or foul.
